What types of documents need an Apostille?

The certificates are obtained to transmit public documents executed in one signatory country to another signatory country where they must submit the documents.

The Hague Convention defines "public documents" as:

  • Those from a court clerk, prosecutor or bailiff.
  • Administrative documents,
  • Affidavits.
  • Official certificates.

These types of "public documents" include birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, divorce records, school records and diplomas/degrees, among others.
